Rams blog week 10: David and Goliath
The Rams came into week 10 without a lot of hope. The past two weeks included heartbreaking losses to the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans. The team was riding a three-game losing streak and carried a 3-6 record. It didn’t help that the starting quarterback was the career backup Kellen Clemens. The Rams were also playing a Colts team who many people have picked to win a championship this year, at home. The Rams came through though and absolutely abused the Colts 38-8.
For the first time in years, the Rams dominated on all three sides of the ball. We started off quickly with a “thunder and lightning” touchdown where Robert Quinn stripped Andrew Luck, and Chris Long ran it in for his first career NFL touchdown. It wasn’t long before our special teams came through and let Tavon Austin return his first punt for a touchdown. Tavon Austin wasn’t done yet though. He also caught two more balls for touchdowns in what will hopefully be just the beginning for this stud.
Even without the punt return touchdown, we performed great on special teams. Every punt return seemed to be taken effectively, while we also managed to keep most of their returns behind the 20 yard line. In fact, one time after T.Y. Hilton took a knee for a touchback, the crowd cheered that they wouldn’t get stopped at the ten yard line yet again.
Our defense absolutely carried our team. The six turnovers and constant pressure on Luck helped to keep us up by 30 points. Four of the picks were in the redzone, showing that our defense is becoming clutch. Our run defense was also up to the challenge of bottling up Trent Richardson. Outside of Andrew Luck, the Rams kept the Colts to two yards rushing total. You read that correctly, two yards.
Robert Quinn is having his best season yet this year having already totaled and NFC leading 12 sacks, 31 tackles and five forced fumbles. No longer just a speedy edge rusher, Quinn has developed his game and has become an elite pass rushing. Look for him to be voted into the Pro-bowl this year.
Robert Quinn has passed the point of being a Pro Bowl player. It's time to start considering him in the Defensive Player of the Year race

While our run game wasn’t as electric as in the past few games, Zac Stacy still had a fine showing. Running for 62 yards and a touchdown helped us out significantly.
This was also the best game of Kellen Clemens career. Posting over a 140 passer rating is nothing to be sneezed at. What I really wanted to see over the past few games was for Clemens to try the deep ball, and he sure tried it this week. In fact one of his touchdowns was a beautiful deep ball to Tavon Austin.
Speaking of Tavon Austin, wow. That is the only word to describe him this week. He must have heard the premature “bust” talk going around St. Louis, because he certainly shut his critics up. The punt return for a touchdown, brilliant. His first catch for a touchdown, amazing. His second catch, also for a touchdown, just look at those wheels. Although looking for this kind of efficiency every week may be foolish, Tavon Austin is looking to make a name for himself in this league.
