Is your music library looking a little boring? Here’s five songs to add to perk it up.1. It’s Time by Imagine Dragons
Easily the best song off Imagine Dragon’s first full album, “It’s Time” is both lyrically and musically impressive. The actual music itself has clapping/stomping, mandolin, and harmonies that are perfectly subtle. Even if this song had no lyrics, I would love it for it’s unique sound. However, the lyrics are equally impressive. Lines like “I’m never changing who I am” and “The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell”, while simple, convey a message about self identity and acceptance that are easily received by anyone who has struggled. 2. Young Glass by Hey Rosetta!
Just like the title of the song, the lead singer’s voice is both smooth and jagged at different points in the song, much like a piece of broken glass. The lyrics are poetic and uplifting, but vague enough that the song has a different meaning for me everytime I listen to it. The message is relatable but not cliche, which is hard to come by in music these days.

3. Our House by Slaughterhouse featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey
The song starts off slow; I’d even argue the first verse is weak. But when Skylar Grey’s haunting voice comes in on the first chorus, you’ll be glad you kept it playing. This song is great because Slaughterhouse pays tribute to the greats before him (Nas, Jay-Z, and Eminem) while pointing out how many skill-less rappers are in the current industry. Oh, and icing on the Cake? It features Eminem.

4. I Never Knew You by The Avett Brothers
Upbeat in tempo and almost comical in lyrics, “I Never Knew You” is an all around fun song. The repetition of the phrase “You say I wouldn’t know you now, well I didn’t even know you then” is almost mocking. Add to this mix the sunny backing music and you’ve got an instant classic. This song is perfect to sing along to with your friends.

From “Mr. Brightside” to “When You Were Young”, there are a lot of songs by The Killers you should have on your iPod. However, the top spot goes to the recently released “The Way It Was”. The song has an 80’s synth-pop, power ballad feeling to it-but in the best way possible. It’s everything I love about The Killers with a new spin. Though some bands lose steam after a few albums, “The Way It Was” is a perfect example that this is not true of The Killers.
