Taylor Swift’s new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was released Aug. 13, 2012 during a live YouTube chat with her fans. The song is the lead single from her fourth album titled “Red”. The song is written about Swift’s frustration towards an ex-boyfriend who wants to get back together with her. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was an instant success, topping the iTunes chart and all over the world becoming the fastest-selling digital single and the biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman in history, with 623,000 copies, according to TaylorSwift.com.
The song is cute and catchy and upbeat. The lyrics are not deep or as thoughtful compared to “Dear John” or “Last Kiss” (also by Swift), but they reflect her fun and easy-going personality.Swift also released a music video for “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together” on Aug. 30, 2012. The music video was shot in one continuous take with no edits according to TaylorSwift.com. During an interview on MTV, Swift said that it took seventeen tries to get film the video. Swift sings as woodland animals dance in the background. The video currently has 13,828,684 hits on YouTube surpassing “Ours” (also by Swift) at 9,868,434 hits
Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, Swift released her second song from “Red” titled “Ronan” during the “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon. The song is slow and emotional in contrast to “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. According to iTunes, “Ronan” was written about a 3-year-old boy who died from cancer in 2011; the proceeds of “Ronan” will be donated to the Taylor Swift Charitable Fund. The song is co-written with the Ronan’s mother, Maya Thompson according to Rollingstone.com. “Ronan” is currently at number one on the iTunes “Top Songs” chart.
Swift’s full album is Scheduled to be released on Oct. 22, 2012.
