Costume ideas

An easy group Halloween costume is the Scooby Doo gang.

There’s nothing better than a fall afternoon. A street littered with orange and red leaves, a cup of warm pumpkin spice latte in hand and the plan of rewatching a classic Halloween movie. It’s perfect.

Speaking of Halloween, the best holiday ever, I’ve heard plenty of talk over this year’s Halloween costumes despite it only being early fall. Although it’s always a worry that your costume will be a copy of someone else’s, sometimes it’s unavoidable.

For example, being a black cat or a witch will always be an easy, basic costume. These are all beloved classics that deserve to be worn, but here are some upcoming costumes that I think will sweep the streets on Halloween night.

Stranger Things, or another simple 80’s costume, will always be a winner. (Janine Gassel)

There’s no question that with the popularity of the new Stranger Things season there will be costumes relating to characters from the show. Despite that they probably won’t be identical to Will or Eleven, there will still be some 80s inspired costumes. This is a simple look which invites you to be creative and wear plenty of neon and vibrant colors.

Another costume that I hope to see this year is the Mystery Incorporation, otherwise known as the Scooby Doo Gang. The best part is that as long as you have less than five people in your group, this costume works. If it’s some combination of Shaggy, Fred, Velma, Scooby and Daphne, you’ve nailed it. These costumes are easy to pull together and will undoubtedly be the best group costume wherever you go. While this surely has been done before, it’s an instant win when done right.

For the duos, a fun and easy idea everyone will recognize is Brennan and Dale from the movie “Step Brothers.” Throw on a sweater vest and childish attitude and you’ll look identical. Some people underestimate what a simple yet hilarious costume will do. Plus, this costume will definitely be appreciated by any Will Ferrell or John Reilly fan.

All you need are sweaters and khakis to be a complete Stepbrother. (Janine Gassel)

A big selling point of these costumes is that they’re all cheap and easy to find. You can find most of the parts you need at any Spirit Halloween, Johnny Brock’s Dungeon or Party City. Another cheaper  alternative to these could be shopping at a thrift store like Goodwill, St. Vincent, Plato’s Closet or Clothes Mentor would have something for your costume. Shopping for the perfect Halloween costume can be tough, but thanks to these local stores, your life will be a little easier.

On the chance that after hearing these amazing costume ideas you still decide to stay in on Halloween, that’s fine, we can’t all be costume extraordinaires. Just remember to at least watch a movie that’s honorary for Halloween,  like “Hocus Pocus” or even “Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin” so your Halloween night doesn’t go completely to waste. And don’t forget to eat some candy, a lot of it.
