Essential seasonal playlist for every fall moment

November 14, 2022

Struggling to get into the autumn mood? Check out TKC’s fall playlist with oddly specific scenarios of when you’d listen to them.

“Dirty Work” by Steely Dan

It’s Thanksgiving break and all your friends are out of town except for you. On top of that, going out isn’t an option because your parents are making you clean the house because you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner for your crazy extended family. Have fun raking leaves, cleaning all the bathrooms, dusting and vacuuming instead of being in Florida like the rest of your friends. Make sure to sing, “I don’t wanna do your dirty work, no more” through your decorated halls to let your parents know you don’t want to be at home anymore.

Live the fall aesthetic by bringing music everywhere you go. (Holland Hilgendorf)

“Fade into You” by Mazzy Star

If you’re already listening to this song, I applaud you. You have a somewhat impressive music taste. You probably come up with fake scenarios in your head that include that hallway crush you’re too scared to flirt with. You’re a person of a mysterious nature who wants to seem different in an attempt to capture the eyes of a few KHS students. To uphold this romantic lifestyle, you choose to listen to this song while reading by yourself at the park while leaves gracefully fall around you. However, it’s way too cold outside to read, so you’ll go home and rewatch “Gilmore Girls”’ for the fifth time.

“Season of the Witch” by Lana Del Ray

Assuming you love Halloween, unlike myself, you probably stood in the mirror 30 minutes prior to party hopping. Like most teens, Halloween probably crept up on you like a scarer at Fright Fest, and your costume came off a five minute craft video. You had to get in the spooky mood for Halloween with “Season of the Witch.”

“California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas

Yellow, red and orange leaves stick to the windshield of your car while you’re driving through Sugar Creek just after the rain has stopped. Your windows are rolled down, this song is blasting and the smell of fresh rain and wet trees wafts through your car. Even though you can picture this, go out and do it: it’s much better that way. Don’t stay cooped up in the house because you have homework to do. Let’s be honest, you’ve been procrastinating for hours anyway.

“Sunday Morning” by The Velvet Underground & Nico

You probably stayed up till at least 12 a.m. watching TikTok. Like the song says, you woke up around dawn with a sore throat and runny nose. Congrats! You have the “Kirkwood Cough.” Take your DayQuil, drink your tea with honey and lose your tissue box in a sea of blankets. Your comfort show plays in the background as you fall asleep on the couch. But don’t get too comfortable, you still have that essay you’ve been putting off writing for a week, and it’s due Monday.
