If you were scrolling on TikTok Jan 5, your For You page was likely flooded with glamorous outfits, celebrities exchanging looks and unpredictable red carpet moments. Even if you missed watching the prestigious event on your TV, here is everything you should know about this year’s event.
Tom Holland and Zendaya: As a middle school girl, like so many others, I had an obsession with Tom Holland. I would let no girl take him from me until Zendaya came along. Watching the two develop a romantic relationship outside of “Spider Man” through interview clips, red carpet moments and Zendaya dropping Timothee Chalamet’s hand, I grew to be obsessed with them. Which is why when Zendaya showed up with a rock on her hand, I was ecstatic. Even more when the two confirmed their engagement shortly after, making this the top moment to remember from this year’s Golden Globes.
Cesily Collette Taylor: If you’ve seen “Wicked” you know the cutest moment is when young Nessa Rose says “no” and “yeah.” This little girl and star in the making is Cesily Collette Taylor, and her appearance at the Golden Globes was probably the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. Showing up in a polka dot dress with a beautiful bow in her hair, how could anyone not love her? Cesily’s precious red carpet interviews were the most delightful to watch, making her just short of the best thing to come out of the event.
Nikki Glaser: As a girl, I was pleased to hear Jo Koy and his plethora of misogynistic “jokes” would not be returning to host the Golden Globes, and rather 2002 KHS graduate Nikki Glaser. Even though all she had to do to be better than Koy was not make sexist comments, Glaser was one of the best hosts I have seen. Her jokes were funny, not too mean and she wasn’t afraid to call celebrities out, making the in-between moments exciting. Personally, my favorite were her wicked jokes, especially since the cast wasn’t easily offended.. I’m not surprised that she was asked to host again, and I’m sure her opportunities will continue to rise after she made one of the biggest nights in Hollywood hilarious.
Best outfits of the night: As someone who loves to judge runway looks, here are the best looks from celebrities at the Golden Globes. Starting off strong, my personal favorite was Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga stunning silver gown. It was classy, elegant, backless and sparkly, the best combo. My second favorite best look was Kate Hudson’s gorgeous Carolina Herrera Ball Gown that was sophisticated and navy, with a stunning necklace to top it all off. I also adored Mindy Kaling’s golden dress, Sofia Vergara’s black ball gown and Abby Elliot’s black gown with a pearl/diamond outline. Safe to say, the celebrities delivered with their outfits (especially the women).
Worst outfits of the night: Even though there were amazing outfits from the night, some looks made me wonder, “who would ever design that?” As much as I love and adore Melissa McCarthy, her dramatic gown with way too many ruffles was probably the worst look I saw, though you have to give it to her, she put herself out there more than any guy in a plain black suit did. I’m also not quite sure what Keri Russell expected to give from her suit/weird cape that she showed up in. Although these stars did try, you don’t always get an A for effort.
Honorable mentions: With all the excitement from the night, there are a few things I would like to discuss before I wrap this story up. First, Seth from “The OC” and Blair from “Gossip Girl”, also known as Adam Brody and Leighton Meister. Although I adore Blair and Chuck, the two showed up to the red carpet and proved that they are one of the best couples in Hollywood. Another couple to mention is Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet, who are miraculously still together.
Overall, the Golden Globes this year had it all from engagement news to the cutest couples to jokes that leave you struggling to laugh any harder than you already are, making it one of the most entertaining nights of the year.
