For people who are just checking their Facebook continuously because they can’t think of anything else to do on their computer, Boredroulette has the solution.
Everything started when former KHS students decided to make a website that randomizes YouTube videos.
Creators Galin Mitchener, Stephen Orr and Jon Krane started brainstorming for the site back in July and put it on the web Sept. 1.
“The point of it is for people who don’t know what they want to watch,” Mitchener, 2005 KHS graduate, said.
Mitchener and Orr are web developers, while Krane is in charge of putting videos on the site.
“I thought it was a good idea,” Orr, 2005 KHS graduate, said. “I do all the kind of nerdy, ridiculous, technical things [for the site].”
The site is designed so the home page displays three random videos. You can watch or hit “spin” for a new group of videos.
“With Boredroulette, it’s new hilarious videos that you’ve never seen before,” Patrick Day, senior and fan of the site, said.
YouTube also feels favorably toward Boredroulette because it helps their website.
“YouTube likes what we’re doing because every hit counts towards them,” Mitchener said.
Just like YouTube submissions can be profitable by putting an advertisement on a video and getting money from the amount of hits, video submissions to Boredroulette can be profitable as well.
Boredroulette is growing in popularity and although it doesn’t get enough hits for the creators to make a profit, it gets a couple of hundred of hits a day and has 81 fans on Facebook.
Other than the random video option on the homepage the website can also be organized in genres of: extreme, funny, animal, best, tech, music, odd, sports and TV. The site also has a search option for users.
“Boredroulette is awesome and everyone should check it out,” Day said.
