Sarah Small, senior, experienced the frenzy of excitement from meeting someone famous when she met Lee Dewyze, winner of the ninth season of “American Idol,” at the airport over spring break.
“…[He was] down to earth. He flew coach on the plane. He isn’t that famous but he is a nice guy,” Small said. “I’ve never met a famous person up close and got a picture.”
Ganesh Gangasingh, sophomore, met Carly Rae Jepsen at her June 13th concert.
“She was trying to act a lot like Miley Cyrus, and she had some cool dance moves,” Gangasingh said. “(She was) incredibly skinny and really friendly and nice.”
However, meeting popular singers isn’t all that students were up to this summer. Matt Eagon, sophomore, met Jamie Kompon, assistant coach of the NHL’s LA Kings. Eagon said this wasn’t the first time he has met him.
“[He] comes back to Kirkwood and helps with the high school [hockey team] camps for us to know what to do during season. He brought the Stanley Cup [they had just won]. It was amazing,” Eagon said. “He is always a pretty cool guy, and loud because he is a coach. I was glad to see him, and he walked in the door with [the] Stanley Cup in hand.”
Eagon will remember this exciting time because, “…he helps us out so much, for him to be generous to bring the cup was really cool of him.”
These students prove that even in the wee-little town of Kirkwood, fame can be found.
However, these are not the only people who have met celebrities. Therefore, one must wonder how many people at Kirkwood High School have met someone famous. To those who have met an amazing celebrity they can submit their photo to the Kirkwood Call. They could even appear on the KirkwoodCall.com.
