In seventh grade, Andrew Lowe (Lau)sat down in front of his computer’s webcam for the first time and started making videos he had dreamed of from the first time he watched a YouTube video.
Andrew, now a sophomore, has become a regular contributor on the web, averaging over 150,000 total views from all 52 of his videos on YouTube.
With finding ideas being difficult, Andrew finds inspiration through other people’s YouTube videos and popular trends. Andrew’s videos usually range anywhere from killing a wasp with a vacuum cleaner to a Hunger Games spoof.
“It all started off as something I just liked to do a lot and becoming recognized just came with it,” Andrew said.
Making videos on YouTube for roughly two years, Andrew has captured the eyes of thousands of fans.
“I mostly became recognized last summer and it’s just gone up from there,” Andrew said. “It started with the videos and the tweets came after that.”
Soon after the videos on YouTube became well-known, Andrew created a Twitter account that now has over 5,000 followers and is catching the attention of more students around KHS.
“It’s really cool to see someone who’s a part of something different and unique,” Lauren Weyerich, junior, said. “His tweets just make so many people laugh.”
Along with being known for his YouTube videos, Andrew is noticed for his highly retweeted tweets as well.
“The tweets really just come to me when I write them. The reactions from people and fans is what is always fun to see,” Andrew said.
With a flow of support andlove coming from his family, Andrew is not the only one with a sense of humor and entertainment in the Lowe household.
“At home, there’s never really a dull moment,” Sarah Lowe, junior and Andrew’s sister, said. “Even when we’re fighting we’re always making each other laugh and it really showsthe support we all have for him.”
From being a supportive sister, Sarah and the rest of their siblings have watched their brother go through his success and have been able to be there with him every single step of the way.
“It’s great, whenever he finishes a video we all gather around the computer to watch it together and once one of us starts laughing, we’re all laughing together,” Sarah said.
Through this, Andrew has engaged in meeting new people such as the famous singer of the hit “Friday,” Rebecca Black.
Black contacted Andrew by messaging him and told him how much she enjoyed his videos. Ever since Black approached Andrew, they have become friends.
“She’s really just another teenager like myself,” Andrew said. “I’m really just out there doing what I like to do, and it’s really cool to have other people see that, too.”
Andrew and his sister have been watching YouTube channels since before the video making even started and it has been something he has wanted to follow through with for years.
With not knowing what YouTube was just four years ago, Andrew had started by watching people on YouTube. Now, Andrew has no trouble in finding who his inspirations are.
“He’s become one the people he had always admired growing up and watched on YouTube,” Sarah said. “He’s getting noticed on the streets and meeting so many interesting people. It’s crazy.”
Andrew enjoys what he does everyday. By involving himself in something different such as video making, Andrew has made his fans aware of how passionate he is about what he does.
“It’s cool doing something different, and people think I’m famous or something, but really I’m just doing what I love,” Andrew said.
Andrew has reached one of his many goals, starting off in front of the webcam, and he cannot wait to see what he can do with this in the future.
“It’s insane how one day you can be watching something for the first time and think, ‘Hey that could be me,’ and then it really is,” Sarah said. “It just proves that dreams can come true.”
