Through the use of social media sights, school administrators such as senior and junior class principals Michael Gavin and Michael Wade use their Twitter accounts to connect with students. Both have Twitter accounts followed by many students at KHS. Gavin believes using this new technology can have its advantages.
“It’s easier to connect people across 43 acres and 110 classrooms,” Gavin said.
Wade’s main advantage of having a Twitter account is to inform students about important upcoming events, like AP tests. While Twitter can be informational, Wade knows it also come with a downside. Twitter is public, and some students do not realize what they post on Twitter can affect them in school as well.
“I am always worried about what I will read,” Wade said. “If I read something that is inappropriate, and wrong I have to follow up on it.”
While Twitter can be a tool to connect with students, Gavin encourages students to use it wisely.
“Talk to kids and talk to parents about educating people that their tweets are public just like my tweets are public,” said Gavin.
