Their mother dedicates her life to her family: taking care of her mother every day and striving to support her daughter. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, things worsened. They were stripped of their traditions, food supply and income. Their mother left her job so she could look after her own mother, who was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), leaving her unable to accomplish basic tasks on her own, such as bathing, cooking or moving around the house. These are now additional responsibilities for their mother.

“I am constantly struggling to pay the bills,” their mother said. “My main focus is trying to keep clothes on my daughter’s back. Sometimes I feel like I’m superwoman. Being a Libra, I feel like I need to keep everything and everyone balanced, which is hard when you don’t have a steady income.”

As a single mother, she said she wants to do everything in her power to maintain their positive family dynamic. Still, this is more difficult to accomplish when the family struggles financially every day. She said that the economy is constantly failing her family, and she needs help in order to keep a smile on her daughter’s face.

“We are family oriented, so we always eat together, play games and reminisce on what life used to be like [before we began to struggle],” their mother said. “I want to do everything I can to make our house a home and provide a happy Christmas for my daughter. We are so thankful for our family being recognized and appreciate anything we can get.”
