The first semester was filled with chaos for many, from time consuming assignments, having missed deadlines and late night practices from sports. Students around KHS share ways they cope with school work, routines and habits they have set for themselves to finish this year off strong to avoid these roadblocks.
Jacob Eberhart, junior, and Sheridan Ruyle, sophomore, said they have different approaches to getting their work done. Some skills to keep good habits could be creating a day by day routine and other ways could be making different adjustments from first to second semester, said Ruyle .
“My routine is I find a place to work alone that is quiet and I turn on my music, then I open my work up and try to get the two assignments [for online classes] first completed,” Eberhart said, “If I finish that then I can have some free time at the end of my IP for other work for my other classes. I am going to try to keep up with this all semester.”
KHS has made lots of resources available to the students. One of many helpful ways to help students through the school is to access the Pride Center during IP. Another way is being able to sign up for a variety of teachers for homeroom with help of work are just some of the ways KHS has helped out students to reach their highest potential.
“One habit I’ve changed this semester is going to the classes that I need more help in during homeroom time, so I can utilize that time to talk to my teachers,” Ruyle said, “It also helps me form a better connection and helps my teachers form a better understanding of how I like to learn and a way for me to keep my grades up.”
Some other ways to keep students motivated is asking what their passion is later for later in their life and why working hard now could pay off in the future. Eberhart said he is set on graduating high school early to start his college career. He said he tries to stay ahead of his assignments.
“I make sure I get all of my work done and to stay motivated,” Eberhart said. Sometimes when I catch myself falling behind, I just think about college and the morals I have. “I know I want to graduate early which means it will take a lot of work.”
Ruyle similarly reminds herself to stay motivated during an IP and to use her resources during that time, although it is very easy to get sidetracked with games, friends, and being unmotivated towards the end of the school day.
“This semester I have an IP 7th hour and sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated because it’s the last class of the day and you’re not required to do anything,” Ruyle said. “Although, IP does help because the Pride Center is a great tool to use when you are confused about all of your work, you have teachers that can help you.”
