LIFE of a Pioneer: Senior Skip day
From the first day of freshman year to graduation, students pass through milestone events to mark their ways through the treacherous journey that is high school. Here are some of the most common.
Along with having the loudest battle cry at pep rallies and being the oldest students on campus, seniors have the added privilege of Senior Skip day.
“I’m excited about it because it’s fun that we don’t have to come to school, but I kind of wish it was not a planned thing and the teachers didn’t know about it,” Kacy Jacobs, senior, said.“I wish the seniors orchestrated it and just didn’t come one day.”
Senior skip day is a planned event in the senior schedule which allows parents and teachers to be aware of the seniors skipping school. This year, senior skip day is April 18.
For Jacobs, the best part of being a senior at KHS is getting to do all the activities underclassmen do not get to do.
“I feel like you get a lot of privileges being a senior and I like that,” Jacobs said.
Senior skip day always correlates with the senior camping trip, another tradition exclusively for seniors. The seniors camp for one night, and the following day is usually senior skip day.
“I think [the tradition] gives you something to look forward to,” Jacobs said. “When you are an underclassman, you look forward to senior skip day or messing with the freshmen on the first day of school and you get excited about the traditions.”
