Kirkwood High School temporarily lost power Oct. 25 in all buildings except the gym. At approximately 8:40 a.m., harsh winds broke a tree branch on the east side of campus near the service alley and severed the power line that fuels most of the campus.
Kirkwood administrators responded quickly by locating the cause of the power outage, clearing the other branches and repairing the severed power line. Kirkwood Fire Department and Kirkwood Electric were on the scene shortly after the outage and resolved the situation by approximately 9:40 a.m.
Students were required to stay in their classrooms until power was restored.
“Anytime you have power outages, especially in school buildings, it’s better to have people stay put until we figure out where the outage was,” Chad Walton, resource officer, said.
According to Chris Krieger, technology educator, the power outage caused concern toward the process of re-booting the servers, teacher e-mails and Activboards.
“I don’t think we are dependent on [Activboards and iMacs], but we rely on that technology.” Krieger said.
