Lori Gordon, educational support counselor, is no newcomer to the counseling scene. She is new to KHS, however, which leaves many students wondering exactly who she is.
“I’d say I’m laid back, open-minded and fun,” Gordon said.
She hopes to bring those qualities with her to her new job.
“I’m really glad to be here,” Gordon said. “Counseling is what I really enjoy, and I’m looking to get to know as many kids as possible whether you have a problem or not. Feel free to stop in and tell me about the school and just let me know you’re here.”
Before coming to KHS, Gordon worked at Family Resource Center, where she provided in-home counseling for individuals and families. As a Kirkwood resident with kids in the school district, Gordon was excited for the opportunity to work at KHS.
“I’m most excited to get to know everyone here– get to know the kids, get to know the staff and just get involved with the high school,” she said.
Outside of school, Gordon said she makes a point to explore different parks in the area, and also enjoys biking and hiking. Her main job, though, she said, is taking care of her kids.
The biggest difference between this job and her old one, Gordon said, is staying in one place. Before, she traveled all around the St. Louis area to visit with people. Either way, she enjoys her job.
“Everyone is different, and everyone is unique. Everyone has unique problems that I hope I can give some insight to,” Gordon said. “When I can, that’s very rewarding.”
