Update:
N&M Market, or Majic Market, a 50-year-old Kirkwood landmark, will not be closing its doors. Instead, only a changing of tenants will occur. The current tenant, Jacob Portnoy, will be liquidating his inventory and plans to move out Dec. 31. Along with Portnoy will go the secret recipe for Majic Market’s signature gyro sandwiches. The store will continue to operate at normal hours until that time.
“My memory of the store will always be the customer,” Portnoy said. “The years I was running Majic Market were the best of my life.”
Omar Abdallah, owner of the Majic Market building, said the store will continue to function as it previously did once Portnoy leaves. There will still bill gyros, but they will not be made using Portnoy’s secret recipe.
“I know what this store means to members of the Kirkwood community,” Abdallah said. “The liquor license has been renewed, a building inspection is planned, and Majic Market will continue to run under a new tenant.”

Majic Market, the longtime Kirkwood deli known for its gyro sandwich, returns to Kirkwood with a grand opening on July 8, Friday morning.
The new market is located at 640 W. Woodbine Ave., across from the 7-Eleven and will feature the same menu. Majic Market hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store is closed on Sundays.
Majic Market most definitely will be serving up its customer fave: GYROS.
Please WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, Jacob Portnoy, the owner of Majic Market, would like to
share with all of my loyal customers, the latest information in reference to reopening my store.
The Public Work Dept of the Kirkwood City Hall has already reviewed all the necessary paperwork submitted for special use permit. The Planning and Zoning Commission have reviewed all applications with a positive reaction and recommendations to approve the referenced project.
After scheduled Public Hearing sometime in May, I will start remodeling the new location. I will keep you posted in the store re-opening progress.
Also, I would like to clarify some information in the article dated December 11. Mr. Abdallah, owner of 500 W. Essex property, has never been the owner of the Majic Market. This information just misleads the residence of this area.
I appreciate all my customer being so patient and I promise
not to disappoint you in the new location.
Jacob

Have always enjoyed your sandwiches and gyros was sorry to hear you were closing happy to hear you’re just moving .where will your new location be?

This is absolutely incorrect information given by property owner. I am Jacob Portnoy, owner of the Majic Market and I not close my store. Based on some circumstances, property owner did not extend my lease and decided to bring his son to operate some business. Whatever are food will be serve in this place, it will be different that we served. Majic Market is moving to the new location, just 3/4 mi from this corner and our famous Gyro with our homemade cucumber sauce will be served in Majic Market because we are the best. I plan to reopen Majic Market on late March after received permit. Remember, the Majic Market is home of the World Famous Gyro.
I ask all my loyalty customer to be a little bit patient and all together we will open another page in Majic Market history.
