Florissant Valley Community College in Ferguson was the place to be for five KHS engineering students Friday, Feb. 18. Students from schools throughout the St. Louis area flocked to Ferguson to compete in the Project Lead the Way Engineering Competition, but only one school took home the first place title. As a team, five KHS students received first place in the teamwork category, second place in the design and presentation portions of the contest, and first place in the overall competition.
During the event, teams are given a situation to respond to where they must design and build a system to solve a given problem. Teams are also required to prepare a presentation to deliver. Each team must arrive at 8 a.m. and are expected to turn in their final products and presentations by no later than 11:30 am.
“It’s just really fun to compete,” Mike Brown, engineering teacher, said. “There is not really anything attached to it, there is just the pride of smiling and saying that we did the best job.”
The KHS team that won first place in the competition consists of:
Kevin Doyle, senior
Lianna Doty, junior
Rachel Bisch, sophomore
Colin Enslin, freshman
Seth Lanius, freshman
