The Kirkwood School Board elections will take place April 5. There are four candidates looking to fill the three open positions.
Scott Stream
Age 55, previously elected to school board, Kirkwood resident
Occupation– Insurance broker, Stream Benefits Group
Political Experience– Board member, Kirkwood School District, 2005-present
Education– Webster University, M.A. in Management
Qualifications
-Lifelong resident of the school district, graduated from KHS, married a KHS graduate, has four children that have either graduated or are attending Kirkwood Schools
-Involved for a number of years volunteering within the schools, including Kirkwood School District Foundation and the board of education
-Brings knowledge of the schools, community and businesses to the board
E.J. Miller
Age 49, Glendale resident
Occupation– Attorney
Education- Washington University School of Law, JD
Qualifications
-Board member with the Kirkwood School District Foundation
-Served on the Committee for Propositions 1 and 2 this past November, advocating the passage of bond proposals to fund improvments to classrooms
-Previously North Glendale PTO’s ambassador to the foundation
-Pro-bono legal volunteer for St. Patrick Center in St. Louis
-Representative for Boy Scout Troup 360
Heidi Meckes
Age 50, Kirkwood resident
Occupation– Community volunteer
Education- Bachelor of Science Accounting and Economics
Qualifications
-CPA (Certified Public Accountant) with 29 years of experience
-Former CFO for Mercantile Mortgage and controller for Illinois Department of Revenue
-Understands large, complex budgets
-Volunteers on PTO Boards and the Kirkwood School District Foundation board
-Chair of the district’s revenue committee with a solid grasp of the resources available for our children’s education
-Recently co-chaired the KSD Bond Campaign Committee, which led to voter approval of Proposition 1
Steve Hazan
Age 46, Kirkwood resident
Occupation– Commercial lender, senior vice president, Bank of America
Education– University of Maryland, Graduate Level Certificate in Management
Qualifications
-Background in finance and experience as treasurer on the Kirkwood Public Library Board brings a different perspective and financial discipline to the table
-Has lived in four other states as an adult and has seen how other communities operate. This exposure to other regions provides additional diversity to the board
-Looks forward to making significant contributions to the community, schools and children
