Starting July 1, 2011, KHS will no longer have Pepsi products in its vending machines, but Coca-Cola.
After a three-year contract ended with Pepsi this year, the district finance department was required to create a request for proposal to find other soft drink companies to do the business that Pepsi currently does for the Kirkwood School District.
“We got a proposal from Pepsi and one from Coke, and the monetary proposal from Coke was better, so we went with Coke,” Mike Havener, assistant superintendent of finance and operations, said.
All of the new products will be sugar free and meet the state regulations. To students, the change should not be too dramatic, aside the Coca-Cola logo that will be in the hallways instead of the Pepsi one, according to Jacqueline Ravenscraft, executive secretary.
“Pepsi will come in at the end of June and take all of the machines out,” Ravenscraft said. Then Coke will come in the beginning of July and put all of their machines in.

The only main nutrition differences between Coke and Pepsi are:
Coke has 170 calories- Pepsi has 180 Calories
Coke has 2% of your daily value of sodium- Pepsi has 1% of your daily value of sodium
Coke has 46 carbs- Pepsi has 48 carbs
Coke has 46 grams of sugar- Pepsi has 48 grans if sugar
Overall, coke is a little bit better- by one percent (except sodium)
When is Kirkwood going to stop putting all diet soda in the machines?
Not only does it taste different, but it sends the wrong message to our students that they ALL have to loose some weight- which is not the case. Can’t we have a space for both regualr AND diet in our machines?
