Ramona Miller, sophomore class principal, leads the cafeteria system at KHS.
“I am actually the liaison between the high school food prep and the high school, so any if any issues were to arise I would be the go to person for it,” Miller said.
Miller cites undercooked or generally questionable food as the primary issues she would be associated with.
“The two greatest occurrences recently would be chicken strips that are a little too pink in the middle and fries that may or may not appear to be undercooked,” Miller said.
Despite these miscues, Miller claims the cafeteria system also handles safety problems.
“[Chartwell’s] is very aware of the peanut allergies and they try to stay away from any prep methods or products that would interfere with that,” Miller said. “The ingredients are pretty straightforward, so you can clearly see a salad would have whatever ingredients and then the students with special needs, we can work with the cafeteria on that.”
Even though KHS cafeteria workers are employees of Chartwell’s and not Kirkwood School District, they still follow KHS-established guidelines.
“[The cafeteria workers follow] the sanitation guidelines with the hand-washing, wearing the hair nets, gloves, the food prep methods that are pretty consistent, all of that they are expected to adhere to,” Miller said.
