‘New grand opening’ of KHS cafeteria to come in December

In the first week of December, KHS will undergo a ‘roll-over’ of foods ac- cording to Terri Whitaker, service direc- tor for Chartwells of KSD. There will be a makeover of KHS’s cafeteria foods. Whitaker said there may be a chef doing live demonstrations of how the food will be prepared. Public- ity people could also come to cover the event, she said. An example of a new menu item is a different version of pizza.

“The pizza crust is a recipe designed especially for us,” Whitaker said.

This is in response to updated food regulations. To meet requirements about grain, the pizza crust is now 51 percent whole grain and flax seed. The cheese also helps reach dairy requirements. KHS does not count pizza sauce as a vegetable.

Whitaker and her staff are excited to bring KHS new foods.

“It will be like a grand opening, and we’re looking forward to it,” Whitaker said.
