Eight years later: KHS wins districts

The buzzer goes off and the stadium is stunned for only a second from the shocking victory that just took place. Then chaos erupts, football players jump in the air thrilled, the KHS student section runs out to the field, for the second time, to join the celebration, the band plays a song of victory. This was the big win that will be remembered for ages.

Carl Davidson, sophomore, was drum major for the second half of the game. Davidson said that the game was really exciting and that it was amazing that KHS won. He said that he was hopeful for the team to win but he wasn’t expecting a victory.

“CBC’s got a good team,” Davidson said. “I still expected there to be a good turn out from the team and the student section.”

Davidson said that the last quarter of the game was the most exciting, since everything was on the line. He said that it was great that the team came out with the win.

“It got really exciting and really fun,” Davidson said. “The student section especially got really excited and hyped.”

Mason Van Horn, junior, said that winning Friday’s game felt amazing. Van Horn said that he kept telling people that KHS has a chance this year, but was answered with negative feedback and people saying that this game was just going to be a big massacre. Van Horn said that there were stats from the last two years of CBC games that proved we had a chance of winning.

“I’ve been looking at stats of the past two years since we played CBC,” Van Horn said. “The first game we got crushed and only got a field goal. Last year we [only] lost by 21 points, so there were signs of life.”

Van Horn said that he was confident in many of the players on the team this year. He said that he knew the players were going to get it done and that it felt good. He said that he is now excited and hopeful for the upcoming game this Friday as well.

“The students came out, they were yelling and screaming, but I know they can do better,” Van Horn said. “We’ve gotta be there for our teams and go out and support them. Because when they have somebody behind them, they do well.”

KHS will face off against Jackson at home on Nov. 22 at 7:00.
