Tired of scrolling through endless content only to land on a TV show that seems promising and then losing interest after the pilot episode? You’re not alone. Finding a new series to watch can be difficult. So… why bother? After all, it’s so much easier to return to a comfort show that you already know is going to be good. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of all of your favorite film series that are getting new seasons in 2025, so you can sit back and enjoy new content from shows you already know and love (and if you haven’t seen these, then here’s a list of shows you should try).
- “Stranger Things” season five: This highly anticipated finale to the science fiction drama will be released on Netflix sometime in 2025. The writers described the overall mood of this season as if “season one and four had a baby” that was “injected with steroids.” This season will surely be an action packed one, and is theorized to be quite the tear-jerker (have tissues at the ready, people).
- “The Summer I Turned Pretty” season three: Based off of author Jenny Han’s YA romance trilogy, with its third season is set to release in the summertime of this year. Amazon revealed that the upcoming season will consist of 11 episodes – which is more than the two previous seasons. Although this season is based on the final book in the trilogy, the production team of the film series has not explicitly stated that it will be the final season of the show, so there is a possibility that the series could continue. Either way, it’s definitely going to be filled with enough drama to keep you entertained while school is out for the summer.
- “My Life With The Walter Boys” season two: Wow, yet another teen “love-triangle” show that’s getting a new season in 2025. If you’re looking for a good “big city girl moves to small town” trope, then this one’s for you. After this show hit Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV List within days of its release, and combined with the cliffhanger ending of the first season, a second season was inevitable. Netflix announced that it will be released sometime in 2025, and filming for the upcoming season was confirmed to have been finished mid-November of 2024.
- “Squid Games” season three: This dystopian South Korean suspense thriller is one of the top returning shows of 2025. Originally, the producer of the show, Hwang Dong-hyuk, planned for the second and third seasons to be combined, but decided to split them in two because he had too many episodes for one season. After the end of this upcoming season, the main character Gi-hun will “once again be a changed man compared to the previous two seasons” and find himself “at a critical crossroads,” according to Dong-hyuk.
- “Wednesday” season two: Get ready to return to Nevermore Academy and follow main character, Wednesday Addams, as she navigates an even more twisted and dramatic school year than before. The first season of this show was extremely popular, earning 12 Primetime Emmy nominations in July of 2023. Set to release at an undisclosed date in 2025, Netflix says this new season is said to be “delightfully dark, kooky and mysterious.”
- “The Last of Us” season two: This post-apocalyptic drama based on a popular video game franchise is set 20 years into a pandemic caused by mass fungal infection, which causes the infected to transform into zombie-like creatures. This second season will follow the main characters, Joel and Ellie, five years after the events of the first season. The producers of the show revealed that the upcoming season would consist of seven episodes, and is set to premiere on HBO Max this year.
- “Percy Jackson and The Olympians” season two: Based on the best selling book series of the same name, this is confirmed to be streaming on Disney+ in 2025. Inspired by the novel “The Sea of Monsters” by award-winning author Rick Riordan, this season opens on the main character Percy Jackson returning to Camp Half-Blood one year after the previous season to find his world “turned upside down,” according to Disney.
- “Ginny and Georgia” season three: After a cliff-hanger of a closing episode for season two, season three of this popular teen drama series is expected to pick up right where it left off and throw “new hurdles, new relationships and new challenges” at the mother-daughter main characters Ginny and Georgia in this season, as reported by Netflix. While the exact release date for season three is unclear, it definitely is set to come out on Netflix this year. Additionally, season four of this series was announced and is in the works as well, so be on the lookout for more information about that in the upcoming months.
