Girls’ swim and dive began tryouts to start preparing for the 2017 season Nov. 6. After having a few girls make it to state last year, they have big plans for the upcoming season. “[Coach Beasley] expects a lot of us, but it’s because he loves us and he wants us to do well,” Bella Borbonus, junior, said. “So, when he pushes us hard and I want to quit, I know it’s because he wants me to succeed.”

Mark Borella is a 1984 Kirkwood alum who owns and operates the Seeds of Happiness studio.
"A friend of mine's son was sick, and we knew he wasn't going to make it. I made a handful of these little smiles, [and gave it to the family.] I said maybe you can hold on to [them] until you get your smile back. [The family] said 'it would be very selfish if I didn't tell you to do this for other people.'"
