The varsity boys’ basketball team played Ritenour High on Friday, February 16. The boys’ team picked up their first win in seven games, thanks to a lay-up by Damien Loyd with 1.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter, that gave Kirkwood 78 points, over Ritenour’s 76 points.
“It feels good, I’m still not back to where I was but it feels good to get the game winning shot, and get my confidence back up,” Damien Loyd, junior, said. “I saw that they banked a three and had ten seconds to score so I saw the lane open so I just laid it up, I got fouled too.” According to Loyd, the team feels good as they head into the district championships, which will begin on February 27, against CBC, at the David Holley Gym.
