On October 14th, 2024, Kirkwood hosted it’s annual Oktoberfest at Kirkwood Park. Oktoberfest celebrates the marriage of King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. At Kirkwood, German exchange and Kirkwood students were encouraged to go and celebrate. At this festival there is lots of German music, food, and dancing.
The Deutschmeister band plays many traditional german songs for Oktoberfest.
![Seeds of Happiness:
Mark Borella is a 1984 Kirkwood alum who owns and operates the Seeds of Happiness studio.
"A friend of mine's son was sick, and we knew he wasn't going to make it. I made a handful of these little smiles, [and gave it to the family.] I said maybe you can hold on to [them] until you get your smile back. [The family] said 'it would be very selfish if I didn't tell you to do this for other people.'"
