Police Beat: 5/12-5/18
On May 13, 2014 police received a report of a larceny from a vehicle in the 400
block of Attucks. The victim advised his car was placed up on a jack and the front
wheel and tire were removed from the vehicle and stolen.
On May 13, 2014 officers responded to the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road
for a larceny from a vehicle. A leaf blower and weed eater were taken from a
landscape trailer while parked on the parking lot of a retail business.
On Wednesday, 05-14-2014, at 8:42 p.m. Kirkwood Police and Kirkwood Fire
Department Personnel were dispatched to Kirkwood City Park, 502 West Adams,
for a report of smoke coming from a building. Fire fighters arrived and found
a building housing three restrooms near the tennis courts inside the park on
fire. Fire fighters extinguished the fire but not before the building sustained
significant damage. Investigation led police and fire officials to determine the fire
was intentionally set with paper products from inside one of the restrooms. The
building was closed for inspections and repairs. Anyone with information is asked

On May 15, 2014 police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Evans for
a theft report. Copper guttering was removed from the residence and stolen.
On May 17, 2014 a vehicle owner in the 300 block of Heege called police to
report a destruction of property. The victim’s vehicle had a rear window broken
out while it was parked on the street sometime during the night. A short time
later a resident from the 200 block of Attucks also called police to report a broken
window on a vehicle. A side window and the windshield were both damaged in
the second incident.
On Sunday, 05-18-2014, Kirkwood Police were contacted by a citizen who
reported a family member in distress at a home in the 500 block of West
Woodbine. Officers made contact with a resident who confirmed the family
member was at the home. While speaking with the resident officers learned
of illegal drug activity occurring at the home. The residence was vacated and
secured by police while a search warrant was obtained. Officers made entry
to the home and discovered an active methamphetamine lab along with illegal
narcotics and marijuana. Officers with the St Louis County Drug Task Force were
called in to dismantle, dispose, and make safe the chemicals and equipment on
scene. Kirkwood Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene and
stood by while the lab was dismantled. The resident, who was a renter of the
property, was arrested for several drug-related crimes. The case will be referred
to the St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. The home was
posted unsafe for occupancy until tests could be conducted to assure the home
was safe to inhabit.
Kirkwood Police arrested eight adults for shoplifting merchandise from area
businesses during the week of Monday, 05-012-2014, through Sunday, 05-18-
2014. The businesses were located in the 400 block of North Kirkwood Road,
11000 block of Manchester, and the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. All of
the stealing cases were referred to municipal court.
