The Kirkwood varsity volleyball team will play in the district final at 7 p.m. against St. Joseph’s Academy. The winner of the game will move on to sectionals and have the chance to play in the state championships.
In the first round of the district championships, Kirkwood, the third ranked team in the district, defeated Ladue, the sixth ranked team in the district, in two games on Monday. Yesterday, Kirkwood defeated Nerinx Hall, the second ranked team in the district. The team won the first game 25-23 and the second 21-11.
Tonight, Kirkwood takes on the number one seed in the district, St. Joe’s. Last year in the district semifinal, St. Joe’s defeated Kirkwood in two games and then went on to win the district.
This year, St. Joe’s comes into the game with a record of 27-7, while Kirkwood comes in with a record of 28-4-3. The winner of the game will be one of 16 teams still in the running to win state.
