The KHS varsity football team is one of 24 remaining in the hunt for the state championship.
The Pioneers will take on the Holt Indians on the KHS turf in the first game of the MSHSAA state playoffs Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. Kirkwood has a record of 6-3, while Holt has a record of 6-4. The winner of the game will take on Fort Zumwalt East (9-0) Nov. 8.
For Kirkwood, the playoffs consist of five rounds, during which they could potentially match up against familiar teams such as Rockwood Summit, Parkway West and Webster. If both teams win three games in a row, Kirkwood and Webster will meet in the state semifinals.
If either Kirkwood or Webster makes it to the state championship game (which will be played Nov. 26 at the Edward Jones Dome), the JV teams will play the Turkey Day game. Last year, when the JV teams played, Kirkwood dominated the game and won 35-14.
