The KHS boys’ volleyball team defeated Parkway West May 19 to advance to the state championship.
Parkway West took the first game of the best of three 25-17. It appeared as though they were going to sweep the Pioneers when they took a 24-21 lead in the second game. However, Kirkwood battled back to win the second game 27-25.
In the third game, Kirkwood took an early lead and never looked back. With one point left until victory, the crowd held up ones with its fingers until the Pioneers scored the final point to win 25-17. The team erupted in screams and the crowd attempted–and failed–to storm the court.
The Pioneers will take on the Vianney Griffins in the state championship game May 20 in the varsity gym.
