The varsity girls’ volleyball team will play Nerinx tonight at 6 p.m. in the district final. The winner will move on to play Farmington in the first round of the state tournament.
To reach the district finals, KHS had to defeat Webster in the first round of the playoffs. Then, in the district semifinals, Kirkwood matched up against St. Joe’s Academy, the reigning state champion and, at the time, number one ranked team in the state. However, in a match that went three sets, Kirkwood upset St. Joe’s. Two hours earlier, Nerinx defeated Ursuline Academy to advance to the district finals.
The winner of the game moves to the state tournament, which consists of 16 teams playing single-elimination. The state championship game will take place Nov. 5.
The game will be streamed live from prepcasts.com.
