Simple, tough, and down to business. Jay-Z, a minority owner of the recently relocated Brooklyn Nets, has tried to capture the spirit of Brooklyn and instill it into his NBA team.
Brooklyn has long been known for its history of street ball. Legends such as James (Fly) Williams and Connie (The Hawk) Hawkins grew up in the playgrounds of the borough and dazzled the locals with their spectacular dunks and layups, and unique personalities. However, they have never held a professional basketball team in their city. A 50 year drought was lifted from the city on April 30, 2012. Since the Brooklyn Dodgers M.L.B. team moved to Los Angeles in 1957 the borough of Brooklyn has had no one to cheer for. Until now, The Brooklyn Nets (formerly the New Jersey Nets) have moved into the city, only a few blocks from where legends such as Fly and The Hawk were raised on the blacktops.
Jay-Z, a Brooklyn native, had a major part in bringing the NBA team to the borough, and was also a designer for the Nets. Combining the rhythm and vibe of the city with the roots and history of the street ball legends spawned the new image for the Nets. Simple, tough and down to business. He captured the history of Brooklyn, and put it into a logo.
Here is another look at Jay-Z and the new image of the Brooklyn Nets.
