Kirkwood alum signs with Panthers
The Carolina Panthers announced Friday they have signed tight end Mike McNeill to a two-year deal. Financial details were not released.
McNeill, 26, played for KHS before playing college ball at the University of Nebraska. He was then signed by the St. Louis Rams, where he played in 28 games with one start. McNeill has five career receptions for 36 yards.
Since the beginning of his tenure with the Rams, McNeill had been known as a hometown boy. He will join a team in Charlotte that has lost four offensive weapons during the NFL free agency period, including veteran wide receiver Steve Smith. According to Fox News, McNeill will likely replace blocking tight end Ben Hartsock, who is an unrestricted free agent.
Elsewhere, former Kirkwood wide receiver Jeremy Maclin agreed to return to the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year contract. Maclin missed the entire 2013 NFL season due to a torn ACL.
