Spring Sports Preview: Athletes
After a 10th place finish at state last year, Williams, a senior and Maryville University commit, leads the boys’ golf squad into the 2015 season. Last year, he had a Birdie-Par-Bogey percentage of 95, meaning he shot a birdie, par or bogey on 95 percent of his holes.
Coming into his third year as the starting shortstop for KHS, Kohl, junior, looks to improve upon last season’s success. He began last season hitting lead-off and ended with an above .300 average. In addition to playing shortstop, he pitched for the team and led the team with 10 stolen bases.
One of two senior captains this year, Ducey stands 6 feet 7 inches and plays middle hitter on the team. Last year he led the team with 60 blocks and averaged three kills a game.
Noonan, junior, specializes in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump, placing 10th in the lastter at state last year. She also went to state in the 4×100 meter relay which placed 7th. This will be her third year running varsity track.
Coming into his third year with the team, Hurth, senior, leads the team by playing midfield during games, where he facilitates the ball and helps run the team’s offense, as seen with his 15 assists last season. His main role on the team, however, is to organize the team during practices.
After moving from Dallas last year, Niece started her junior year on the girls soccer team as a center midfielder. She netted 6 goals and had 4 assists, which earned her First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State. She committed to Dallas Baptist University.
Fagen, a sophomore in his second year on varsity, is ready to start the upcoming season ranked number one on the team. Although he suffered a minor setback by injuring his back before the season, his goal this season is to compete at the state tournament.
Ultimate Frisbee:
Jack Huffman
In his third year as a captain, and his fourth on the team, Huffman hopes to improve upon the team’s 6th place at state from last year. Jack plays handler, a position similar to a quarterback in football and can throw a frisbee nearly 100 yards. He specializes in the inverted forehand.
As a sophomore midfielder last season, Doty claimed first team all-conference, First Team All-State and First Team All-Metro honors. She led KHS, as well as the entire Saint Louis area with 89 goals. Sheis hoping to play in college at a Division I school.
Coming off a swim season where he won conference in the 100-yard freestyle, Hoffmann, senior, brings speed to the team. Last year he notched 20 goals and started almost every game. He looks to improve this spring as one of two captains, playing driver, center defense and swimming off.
