KHS Senior Cheer Quotes
Ava Duggin, features writer
Senior cheerleaders were asked what their favorite Turkey Day memory is, and what makes cheerleading on Turkey Day special.
Samaya Trawick
“[Cheerleading is] special on Turkey Day because we not only show the school what we have been working on, but the entire community of Kirkwood. My favorite Turkey Day memory was last year when everyone hit their stunts perfectly and we all ran to the center and gave each other hugs.”
Taylor Shoemaker
“It's cool being an insider on this tradition as opposed to watching it happen. Wearing the bell dresses, having breakfast with the Webster cheerleaders, and then getting to cheer at the Turkey Day game is all an awesome experience and one of my favorite parts about KHS.”
Reese Pennington
“Turkey Day is a time where the cheerleaders can really show the school what we can do. We work on Turkey Day for months in advance. Showing all our hard work and being recognized by the school is such a great feeling.”
Haley Moffat
“I will never forget last year's Turkey Day pep rally. We had a mess up during the morning pep rally, but then we had a pep talk. We came back the next night and killed it. Then we all hugged in the middle of the gym with the happiest smiles I have ever seen.”
Bella Kilwin
“As a team, you get the whole school pepped up and perform a bomb performance made by our coach. Last year, after our baskets, our coach was jumping up and down so excited that we killed the performance and huddled around with us.”
Lily Goessling
“[Turkey Day is special because] for the pep rally, you get to do a performance in front of the whole community and school. No matter what team you’re on, we all do a performance and show off what you have been working on for two months.”
Lexy Custer
“[My favorite Turkey day memory] was my first year on varsity. It was the day of [the] pep rally, and we all wore our bell dresses to school. It was super fun to see all of us looking funny in our bell dresses walking the halls.”
Madeline Brackney
“[Turkey Day] shows all of the work we put in throughout the season since June. It's a showcase to all of our friends and family saying, ‘Hey we can do a lot more than just shake our poms.”
Izzy Bendel
“Being a cheerleader on Turkey Day is more special [this year] because I know it will be my last as a student and cheerleader. I cannot wait to hit my routine and celebrate with my team one last time.”
Allie Beckner
“Being on the cheer team is like one big family. Our team has grown a big relationship with the football team, and when they win Turkey Day we’re celebrating with them.”
