If your wardrobe needs an update but your wallet can’t handle paying for firsthand items, it might be time to try a resale store. Here are four of my favorites, all within a 15 minute maximum drive from Kirkwood.
ScholarShop
ScholarShop is a resale store for women, men and children, selling clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes and more. They also carry some home items like books and vases. Purchases from ScholarShop benefit The Scholarship Foundation, which helps students in the St. Louis area afford a college education. Because it carries clothes for all ages, some can be outdated or not meant for teenagers, making it harder to find certain items, but the prices are great; most are under ten dollars. Shop here if you’re looking for a unique, little-cost find that no one else will have.
ScholarShop has two locations, one on 8211 Clayton Rd. and one at 7930 Big Bend Blvd. Visit their website at http://www.scholarshopstl.org/index.php
Rung
Rung sells clothing and accessories for women. These items are intended for women to wear in professional careers if they can’t afford to buy the items elsewhere, but because a significant portion of Rung’s profits support the work of the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Rung welcomes business from anyone. Shop here if you’re looking for a nice piece of jewelry or dressy clothing.
Rung is located on 9739 Manchester Rd. Visit their website at http://www.shoprung.org/
Plato’s Closet
Plato’s Closet sells clothes and accessories mainly for teen girls. It has a great variety of items like tank tops, sweaters, jeans and dresses in all sizes. Plato’s Closet is different from other thrift stores because their clothes are especially for teenagers. Their clothes can also be slightly pricier than other retail stores in the area. Shop here if you’re looking for clothes that are definitely in style.
Plato’s Closet is located in Kirkwood at 1253 S Kirkwood Rd. Visit their website at http://www.platoscloset.com/
Ditto
Ditto carries clothes for all ages, from toddlers to adults and for men and women, and also carries some home items like small furniture and decorative pieces. 90 percent of their earnings fund tuitions for students to attend St. Louis Christian schools, and ten percent return to the community to help local causes, according to their website. Shop here for a wide variety of choices, especially in shoes.
Ditto is located at 10027 Manchester Rd. Visit their website at http://www.dittostl.com/index.html
