Students head to Jefferson City for new voices hearing
KHS Journalism Adviser, Mitch Eden, and three KHS students will be traveling to Jefferson City to support the Cronkite New Voices Act on Wednesday Jan. 17, 2018. The act, which will be looking to pass through Missouri Legislature for the third consecutive year, prevents high school administrations from censoring student journalists under precedents set by Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier. The act is part of a nationwide movement to repeal pro-administrative censorship laws in every state. Currently 13 states have passed anti-Hazelwood laws and many are looking to follow that lead.
Both Eden and TKC Editor-in-Chief, Camille Baker, will be testifying in favor of the bill. Follow along on TKC’s twitter, instagram and facebook for updates and footage of their testimonies.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Kirkwood High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
