Week Three: Always Next Week
This blog is based off my opinion on the game and what occured during it.
As a big Mizzou football fan I should be happy with how Mizzou plays even when they lose, but I am not happy though. Sure, they played the No. 7 team in the country in South Carolina who featured Heisman-hopeful Marcus Lattimore, running back. And I know, it is Mizzou’s first year in the SEC, but none of these excuses work.
I will be honest in that I did not watch the entire game, but when I got to catch glimpses of the game, I couldn’t watch. Every highlight that would appear on the television screen was of not a Mizzou touchdown or good play on defense, but of the Gamecocks scoring or one of their phenomenal plays. James Franklin, Mizzou quarterback, was not producing big plays and passes that would lead to a touchdown. Even Kendial Lawrence, Mizzou running back, was not producing for the team.
Neither team scored through the first quarter. Then in the second quarter South Carolina scored twice on a 1-yard and 2-yard run. Mizzou countered with a 22-yard field goal by Andrew Baggett to make the score 14-3. The game proceeded with Mizzou allowing Carolina to score three more times to make the score 31-3. Finally, when Mizzou decided to play football, Corbin Berkstresser, Mizzou quarterback, threw a 1-yard pass to Marcus Lucas for a touchdown to make the score 31-10 with 17 seconds left in the game.
Once the game finally ended, I decided to try to forget the horrible play of the defense and the lost offense. Luckily, there is next week’s away game versus the University of Central Florida. I can’t wait for the Tigers to bounce back in the next game. Miz-zou.
