The KH Players’ performance of Is He Dead? will begin tonight, Oct. 18 and run through Saturday, Oct. 20. Tickets cost $7 for students and $10 for adults, and curtain is at 7 pm in the Keating Theatre.
Is He Dead?, written by Mark Twain and adapted by David Ives, tells the comedic story of a struggling painter, Jean-François Millet, who is in love with a woman named Marie LeRoux. Though he wants to marry her, both Marie’s father and Millet are deeply in debt to a ruthless picture dealer named Bastien André. Millet is a skilled artist, but realizes why none of his works are selling: painters are only successful once they have passed on. Realizing this could be his ticket to pay off his debts and help his friends, Millet fakes his own death and poses as his twin sister, the widow Daisy Tillou, to collect the money. Now a wealthy widow with debts paid off, Millet must find a way to get out of his dress and back to Marie.
