How to survive the lunch room lurkers
There is a problem during lunchtime. There is no respect for the custodians or pedestrians. People just leave their trash around without any regard for anyone but themselves. They also do not care where they sit, even if it is in the way of everything. Let me expand.
On the issue of trash, I find it very rude that people do not care if they leave it behind, making the janitors pick it up. While picking up trash is a part of their job, following you around and picking up everything you drop is not. How long does it take for you to pick up your trash? Odds are you walk by several trash cans on your way to class. Next time at lunch, think about doing the right thing and throw your own trash away.
Some of the biggest trash-leavers of them all are also some of the biggest offenders of sitting in bad spots. My friends and I sit in the same place every day. We sit near a door, but always do our best to angle ourselves to allow a walkway to go through. We’ve been doing this since freshman year. The new problem is the very large and very inconsiderate group of freshmen who like blocking the doorway. Not only are they loud and obnoxious, they leave trash everywhere and pay no regard to the people trying to navigate past. They sit in the doorway, when sitting elsewhere is easier. People have to walk over their junk and weave through it as well. Not only is it annoying, it is straight up rude and needs to be fixed. The school offers an entire room devoted to sitting down and eating. Try that.
Lunchtime could be so much improved for all if people took the small amount of effort to pick up their trash and avoid sitting in front of high-traffic doors, because everyone knows we all see it and hate it.
