Coaching and conference changes
Many changes in Kirkwood sports are happening next year. One of the major transitions occurring in the 2014-2015 sports year is that Brad Sutterer has resigned from the position of head coach of the girl’s varsity basketball team. The new coach will be Monica Tritz, a coach from Fort Zumwalt West.
Corey Nesslage, the athletic director said, “We’re very exited that she will be leading our girls basketball program.”
Another change for next year is the conference change. Many new schools around the St. Louis suburban area joined into the association. This caused a need for realignment because new schools needed to be matched to comparable schools that have similar enrollments and similar activities that they offer.
This decision of realignment went through the superintendents, a group called the executive committee, and the athletic directors of the schools in the association.
The new, realigned, suburban conference will be split into two divisions. Each division will split into three conferences. Kirkwood will be in the south division and in the same conference as schools such as Rockwood Summit, Webster Groves, Parkway North, Pattonville, and Ritenour. As the new divisions are built, new competition rises.
Nesslage said, “The entire suburban conference has realigned.”
