SOAR teacher: Mrs. Cindy Coronado
“We follow the criteria the state of Missouri tells us we have to follow. It’s based upon IQ, academic achievement, creativity, teacher recommendation, and critical thinking skills. We look at the child as a whole. Teachers advocate for certain children or [kids] rise above on different assessment thresholds and then we figure out if these might be kids that need extra support. Often basic brain development will tell you that if a kid takes off, cognitively speaking other things lack behind. Whether it be social, emotional, whatever skills, and those are the things we have to boost up to catch them up with their cognitive part of it.”
