Kirkwood Police Beat 11/25-12/1
On Monday, November 25, 2019, at approximately 6:00 a.m., a resident on the 300 block of Way reported the overnight theft of their vehicle. The vehicle was parked, unlocked, inside an unlocked detached garage. The suspects had entered the garage through an unlocked door.
Also, on Monday, November 25, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a resident in the 700 block of Cherry reported the overnight theft of her vehicle.The vehicle had been left unlocked, the ignition fob was left in the center console, while parked in the victim’s driveway. Both reported stolen vehicles were recovered by a St. Louis County Officer in the Olivette area. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
On Monday, November 25, at approximately noon, a customer at a retail department store in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road reported the theft of his parked bicycle. Responding officers reviewed surveillance footage and canvassed the immediate neighborhood for the bicycle. The bicycle was located in the possession of a known-to-police individual, who was subsequently arrested and charged with stealing. The bicycle was returned to the owner.
On Monday, November 25, an employee within the city limits of Kirkwood, reported they were the victim of a telephone scam. The victim stated he was contacted by a person claiming to be with the FBI. The caller informed the victim he could possibly be investigated for money laundering, and in order to protect his bank account from Social Security, he should purchase gift cards. The victim stated he purchased (15) fifteen, $1,000.00 gift cards and sent pictures of the gift cards to the caller. The victim then checked the gift card balances and discovered they were all $0.00.
On Tuesday, November 26, at 7:00 a.m., a resident in the 12200 block of Old Big Bend reported the overnight theft of their vehicle. The vehicle was entered as stolen and has since been recovered from the Wellston area.
On Tuesday, November 26, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a resident in the 700 block of North Taylor reported the overnight theft of lawn equipment from his detached garage.
On Wednesday, November 27, a resident in the 1400 block of Wilton reported the theft of his weed eater from his garage.
On Wednesday, November 27, at approximately 3:23 p.m., a business in the 400 block of North Kirkwood Road reported they were just robbed and the suspect was armed with a knife. The suspect left on foot prior to police arrival. The investigation is ongoing.
On Saturday, November 30, officers investigated overnight theft from vehicle reports from the 600 block of Applewood, the 800 block of Sherilin, the 1000 block of Edgeworth, the 900 block of Lanyard and the 500 block of Linwood. All of the vehicles were entered via unlocked doors and multiple items were reported stolen.
On Monday, December 2, at 1:00 a.m., a motor vehicle traveling in the 400 block of South Ballas collided with a parked vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
During the week of November 25 through December 1, three (3) shoplifting incidents were reported and investigated from businesses in the 1000-1200 block of South Kirkwood Road.
During the week of November 25 through December 1, along with regular calls for service and traffic enforcement, the Kirkwood Police Department responded to 42 residential / business alarms, 33 motor vehicle accidents and assisted the Fire / EMS Department on 65 calls.
