As communities across the world rallied in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, members of the Kirkwood High School Young Democrats club found a way to make a tangible difference. On Sunday, July 19, the club organized a drive-through lemonade and popsicle stand and donated all proceeds to Action St. Louis, a local organization dedicated to fighting racial injustice. Local safety and sanitation guidelines were followed. The event raised over $3,000 in donations.
“I’m so excited about how everything went,” said Amaya Marion, senior and Young Democrats co-president. “The support from the community was really amazing. I enjoyed seeing a lot of people out there, new faces and familiar faces. It was great to see how everyone was there to support and cheer on the [cause].”
