Get support from others
Many students find that seeing their peers is one of the reasons that school can be enjoyable. Since e-Learning began, this has been much more difficult. Students can’t easily collaborate and catch up with their peers on Zoom, but there are other ways to create connections and gain support. You can opt for a meeting with a guidance counselor by filling out this form, but don’t be afraid to contact your classmates. Do homework outside with masks on in a study group, have a Zoom call to discuss different learning strategies, or just spend time together (all in accordance with CDC guidelines). If you’re a senior, consider joining a senior support pod.
“[Senior support pods are] kind of what people imagine a support group is like,” Cosic said. “Normally a group is 8-12 people, and we just come together to have a weekly discussion about any kind of topic, I leave it open to [the students]. I wanted to give students a space to talk about what’s challenging, but also how they’ve grown, and let them have that platform [for] open discussions about what’s hard about [current times. Then] their peers problem-solve together and support each other.”
