Spencer Jones

Post school plans: Broadway

The sun is shining and a warm wind is blowing as Spencer Jones, senior, sits on the steps of his front porch. Promising he’ll be right back, he steps inside his house for a moment and returns seconds later holding an acoustic guitar. Smiling, Jones effortlessly strums an upbeat tune and begins singing along.

Jones has been a performer his entire life. He sings, dances, acts and plays guitar, piano and ukulele. Jones began acting when he was seven-years-old and has been pursuing it ever since.

“My sister, Sydney, was always super involved in [performing arts],” Jones said. “I basically followed in her footsteps and took all of the same dancing and acting classes that she had.”

Since 2015, Jones has been in over 20 shows at The Muny, and in 2018, Jones went on national tour with Lincoln Center Theater’s production of The King and I. Besides his involvement in larger productions, Jones has starred in many KHS plays and musicals, and taken many KHS drama classes taught by Kelly Schneider.

“Some kids in his position could have the potential to carry a big ego,” Schneider said. “[Jones] is not that guy. He is hardworking and personable. Besides being an amazing performer, he’s just a good person.”

Jones said theater is his passion. His favorite part is exploring the intentions and personality of the characters he plays. While others could be attending college in the fall, Jones will be moving to New York City with his sister to further pursue his acting career.

“My main goal is to basically not die,” Jones said. “I want to start living with some sense of stability and, if I’m lucky, maybe get booked in something.”
